Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSW) on the Assessed & Supported Year in Employment (ASYE)
Children’s Social Care & Youth Inclusion
£31,998 per annum for 35 hours per week
Full time - Fixed Term contract for one year
We are recruiting Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs) to join this year’s intake on our Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme. These posts are for NQSWs wanting to work with children and young people and are located in various teams across our service. 
Our ASYE programme is run across children’s social care and adult social care and offers you the chance to ‘think family’ and network with colleagues in both services and other statutory/voluntary agencies.  In Merton Children’s Social Care we work systemically, adopting a ‘Signs of Safety’ approach when working with children, young people, and families.
The ASYE is an important part of our Social Work Academy Merton (SWAM).  Our Academy supports all our social work and non social work staff and offers a wide range of job opportunities.  At the end of your ASYE we hope you will want to stay with us to advance your social work career.  We have an excellent career progression route for social workers and we actively support post qualifying training.
Merton has an innovative and progressive ASYE programme with our workshops and action learning sets being run by an independent facilitator.  As an NQSW you will receive a comprehensive induction, regular supervision and a reduced caseload.  Your progressive assessment against the Knowledge and Skills Statement (Accredited Child and Family Practitioner) will help you review your progress throughout your first year in practice.  Your evolving Professional Development Plans will help your assessor/line manager work with your strengths and support you in your areas of development.
We are an outer London borough at the start of the Northern Line and have a good transport links.  The borough includes the areas of Wimbledon, Mitcham, and Morden.  Most of our children’s teams work out of the Civic Centre which is located in central Morden.
To be able to apply for one our NQSW positions you must:
  • Be in the final year of your Social Work qualifying course, graduating in the Summer of 2017
  • Be registered as a social worker with the HCPC by late September (our first cohort of NQSWs starts mid October 2017)
  • Have the right to work in the UK
These posts will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.

What happens after my ASYE?
When you have successfully completed your ASYE you will be awarded a Merton ASYE certificate and a nationally recognised ASYE Certificate issued by the Department for Education.

Harris Federation Teaching School
